Billing Instructions for NAT Gateway and Internal Endpoint

This page explains free trials and service pricing for NAT Gateway and Internal Endpoint, as well as traffic billing for NAT Gateway. The service prices listed on this page apply to Dedicated deployments. Both services are free for Dedicated Flex deployments.

Free Trial Expiration and Billing

When you enable NAT Gateway or Internal Endpoint for the first time, you receive a 14-day free trial.

For an Annual Prepaid Dedicated deployment, EMQX Cloud automatically converts a 14-day NAT Gateway or Internal Endpoint trial to a paid service when the trial expires. The deployment remains on Annual Prepaid billing. The service is not added to the deployment's annual subscription, and EMQX Cloud does not create a separate annual order for the value-added service.

After the conversion, EMQX Cloud bills the service hourly. Charges appear on the next hourly bill, and EMQX Cloud does not backfill charges for the trial period. The conversion occurs even if the account does not meet the payment requirements normally applied when enabling a paid service. EMQX Cloud sends a service activation email after the conversion.

For Dedicated Flex deployments, NAT Gateway and Internal Endpoint remain free after the trial expires.

To stop hourly charges for the service on a Dedicated deployment, delete the value-added service in the Cloud Console.

Service Pricing

On Dedicated deployments, NAT Gateway and Internal Endpoint can be billed hourly or through an annual subscription. Charges are included in the monthly consolidated bill under your main EMQX Cloud account.

Annual Subscription

Annual subscriptions cannot be created directly by users in the Console.

If you want to switch to annual billing, please create a support ticket. The EMQX Cloud operations team will create the annual subscription for you.

Before requesting the annual subscription, you must first create the service using hourly billing in the Console.

NAT Gateway Traffic Billing

Enabling NAT Gateway incurs additional egress traffic charges for every deployment type. Traffic is billed in both directions:

  • Outbound traffic from the deployment to the internet through NAT Gateway
  • Return traffic from the internet back to the deployment

Traffic in both directions is counted as deployment egress traffic and charged at the standard egress rate ($0.15/GB). As a result, the total billable traffic can exceed the traffic sent from the deployment.

For VPCs connected via PrivateLink or VPC Peering, traffic using non-standard private CIDRs (address ranges outside 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, and 192.168.0.0/16) will be counted as egress traffic. Contact the EMQX Cloud team if this applies to your setup.

Billing When a Deployment Is Stopped

Stopping a Dedicated deployment does not stop billing for its paid NAT Gateway or Internal Endpoint service. To stop the charges, delete the service from the deployment.
